Tennis Caps-off Weekend With 9-0 Shutout Victory Over Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Cardinal Women's Tennis team bounced-back from a defeat on Saturday at Bellarmine to score an impressive 9-0 shutout at the University of Southern Indiana on Sunday (Mar. 25). 

SVSU improved to 12-10 overall on the 2017-18 season after the regional victory over the Screaming Eagles. 

Doubles

The Cardinals got 8-2 victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, as Shea Donahue and Maddie Miller were joined by Danielle Slonac and Joanne Gao for the wins, respectively. At the No. 3 slot, Taylor McLaughlin and Nikita Hill sealed an 8-4 victory over their Eagle opponents to send the visitors into singles play leading by a 3-0 count.

Singles

Donahue had a three-set victory at No. 1 singles, posting the win after scores of 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Miller won in straight sets at the No. 2 spot, claiming the win by scores of 6-4, 6-2. Gao put away her opponent 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while Slonac was victorious at the No. 5 slot after cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 decision. McLaughlin had a three-set win at No. 4 singles, winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. The last win for singles play was at the No. 6 spot from Hill, as she bounced back from a 3-6 first set to take the last two 6-1, 10-4.

Saginaw Valley finishes its regular season on Friday (Mar. 30) with a trip to Eastern Michigan for another contest. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
