Cardinals fall at Bellarmine in regional action

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Cardinal Women's Tennis team traveled to Bellarmine University on Saturday (Mar. 24) for a regional match. SVSU fought hard in the match but dropped the contest by a 6-3 decision to the Knights. 

Doubles

The lone doubles victory for Saginaw Valley came at the top spot. Shea Donahue and Maddie Miller teamed-up for a solid 8-6 victory over their Knight opponents. 

Singles

Donahue tacked-on another win in the contest, claiming a three-set decision at the No. 1 singles spot. After dropping the first set 1-6, Shea responded with wins in the next two by counts of 6-3, 6-1. 

Joanne Gao claimed the other win in singles action for the Cardinals at the No 3 spot. She also fell in the opening set by a 2-6 margin before claiming a win. She came through in the clutch in sets two and three, posting wins of 7-5, 7-6 (3). 

Taylor McLaughlin and Danielle Slonac fell in three-set matchups at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively.

SVSU continues on its road trip with a Sunday match at the University of Southern Indiana. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m. in Evansville, Indiana.
