Panthers defeat Cardinals 7-2 in spring action

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Tennis team traveled to play at Florida Tech on Wednesday (Mar. 7) afternoon in another spring trip match. The Cardinals played well in doubles action, carrying a 2-1 lead over to singles play. The Panthers, however, bounced back and swept singles action to come away with a 7-2 win.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Shea Donahue and Maddie Miller posted an 8-4 victory over their opponents. At No. 2, Joanna Gao and Danielle Slonac were victorious as well, coming away with an 8-5 win. 

At No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Donahue and Miller dropped matchups to nationally-ranked opponents. Gao fell in three sets at No. 3 singles, dropping the contest 6-3, 5-6, 4-6. Taylor McLaughlin was close to forcing a third set at the No. 4 spot, falling 1-6, 6-7 (4). 

The Cardinals wrap-up their 2018 spring trip with a 3:00 pm match at Saint Leo on Thursday.
