TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Tennis program has achieved its highest-ever regional ranking, coming in at No. 8 in the most recent Oracle / ITA NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings.

The Cardinals are one of five GLIAC programs featured in the top-10 rankings. Saginaw Valley, which also has the No. 14-ranked singles player in Shea Donahue, had an impressive fall campaign in posting an overall mark of 9-5, including a 7-3 GLIAC record. The Cards finished 5th at the 2017 GLIACTournament and were 4th in the league standings following the regular season. The team capped-off the season with consecutive 5-0 victories in the annual league postseason tournament over Ashland and Michigan Tech. The team is back in action February 16-17 when it opens the 2018 spring schedule on the road with two matches in Erie, Pennsylvania against Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock.

SVSU head coach Jenn Boehm added her thoughts on the team's current regional ranking...

"After battling through a tough GLIAC schedule it's nice to see us reach a new milestone in the ITA regional rankings. That being said, we aren't satisfied with being eighth and the ultimate goal is to qualify for the NCAA postseason. We have an incredibly challenging spring schedule ahead of us so there is a lot of opportunity for us to go out and improve upon our current standing."
