Women's Tennis Cruises to 5-0 Victory Over Ashland

MIDLAND -- The SVSU Women's Tennis team claimed a dominant 5-0 victory over the Ashland University Eagles on Saturday (Oct. 28) afternoon on the second day of the 2017 GLIAC Tournament. The Cardinals posted a victory in all three doubles matches, adding the two necessary singles wins for the shutout.

Doubles

Shea Donahue and Taylor McLaughlin cruised to an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over their Eagle opponents. The No. 2 team of Danielle Slonac and Maddie Miller added an 8-1 showing in their win. Joanne Gao and Maya Campbell secured the doubles sweep, winning 8-5 at the No. 3 slot.

Singles

The Cards were equally as impressive in the only two completed singles matchups. Donahue was stellar in her 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot. The only other match to go final was Campbell at No. 6 singles, winning in 6-0, 6-0 fashion.

The victory over Ashland sets up a Sunday matchup with the Michigan Tech Huskies. First serve is set for 8:15 a.m. at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in the 5th place match. The Cardinals won the earlier contest between the teams this season, a 5-4 marathon match that lasted over five hours in Houghton on Sep. 30.
