Women's Tennis Falls in GLIAC Tourney Opener to Tiffin, 5-1

MIDLAND -- The SVSU Women's Tennis team dropped a 5-1 match to the Tiffin Dragons in the 2017 GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday (Oct. 27) evening. The Cardinals entered as the No. 4 seed and the Dragons were the No. 5 seed. 

Doubles

Tiffin claimed all three of the doubles matches, giving the Dragons a 3-0 edge heading into singles play. All three doubles contests were extremely close, as two were 9-7 scores and the other went 8-5. Shea Donahue and Taylor McLaughlin dropped an 8-5 score at No. 1 doubles. Danielle Slonac and Maddie Miller fell by the narrow 9-7 count at the No. 2 spot while Joanne Gao and Maya Campbell dropped their match by that same tight 9-7 score.

Singles

The lone victory for the Cardinals came via Gao's 6-2, 6-2 decision at the No. 3 singles spot. Miller lost 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot and Campbell fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, giving the Dragons the 5-1 win.

Saginaw Valley faces Ashland University on Saturday (Oct. 28) in a 3:45 p.m. consolation bracket matchup in Midland. The Cardinals defeated the Eagles by an 8-1 score earlier this season on Oct. 7.
