Women's Tennis Earns ITA Academic Awards

TEMPE, Ariz. - The SVSU women's tennis team earned special recognition from the Intercollegiate TEnnis Association, being named as an ITA All-Academic Team and having three individuals earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status. 

The Cardinals posted a cumulative GPA of 3.235 for the 2015-16 campaign, earning them the much-deserving honor. Erin Doud, Danielle Slonac and Ana Pico Garcia were the three individuals who earned scholar-athlete status for this past season. 

Doud has a 3.533 cumulative GPA and recently completed her final season competing in a Cardinal uniform. Slonac maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA and will be entering her junior campaign for the Cardinals. Pico Garcia holds a 3.852 GPA and will compete for SVSU in her final year of eligibility this upcoming season.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
