Pair of Top-7 Finishes Headline Day 3 of GLIAC Championships

JENISON - The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving team completed the third day of competition today (Feb. 13) at the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships at the Jenison Aquatics Center in Jenision, Michigan.  Following the third day, SVSU sits in eigth place with a total of 161 points.  Wayne State remains the leader with 596 points.

SVSU had five swimmers compete in the preliminary rounds during the morning session, with all five touching in at season-best times.  Freshmen Carley Buechner and Rebeca Martinez advanced to the finals round of the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard butterfly, respectively.

Martinez recorded her third top-eight finish in as many days with a seventh place showing in the 200 yard butterfly finals (2:07.42).  The freshman notched a season-best time of 2:07.07 in the preliminary round.

Buechner posted a season-best mark of 1:05.92 in the preliminary round of the 100 yard breaststroke.  She finished with a time of 1:06.44 in the finals which was good for seventh place.

Katelynn Franczak swam to her best times in the 500 yard freestyle (5:42.24) and 200 yard butterfly (2:36.00).  Kaleigh Kovac had her season-best time in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.65), while Shaked Bachar posted a season-low time of 2:16.97 in the 200 yard butterfly preliminary round.

Saginaw Valley is back in action tomorrow (Feb. 14) for the final day of the GLIAC Championship meet at the Jenison Aquatics Center.  On the schedule for tomorrow is the preliminary rounds of the 100 yard freestyle, 200 yard backstroke, 200 yard breaststroke, 1650 yard freestyle, and three-meter diving which begins at 10:30 am.  The finals round for those events and the 400 yard freestyle relay will begin at 6:00 pm.
