Women's Swimming & Diving Competes at Albion

ALBION - The Saginaw Valley State University women's swimming and diving team competed against Albion College in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 24).  The Lady Cardinals recorded eight top finishes but fell to the Britons by a final tally of 126-112.

Freshman Rebeca Martinez recorded three more victories in the 400 Yard IM (4:45.28), 200 Yard Butterfly (2:15.26), and 500 Yard Freestyle (5:25.98).  

Shaked Bachar swam well for the Cardinals as well.  Bachar claimed the top spot in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:34.10 and posted another top finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke, finishing at 2:18.32.

The SVSU diving trio of Wilhelmina Francisco (233.60), Kathleen Murphy (220.60), and Erica Wysocki (218.75) finished in the top three spots of the one-meter diving event.  Murphy took first in the three-meter event, diving to a score of 229.80.  Wysocki (222.75) and Francisco (207.60) finished in second and third place, respectively.

The final victory for the Cards came from Carley Buechner who swam to a time of 2:32.54 in the 200 Yard Breaststroke.

The Saginaw Valley swimmers are off until the GLIAC Championships on February 11-14.  The ladies will compete in the program's first GLIAC Championships in Jenison, Michigan.  The divers return to the board next Saturday (Jan. 31) for the GVSU Last Chance Diving Invite at 10:30 am.
