Women's Swimming & Diving Completes Day Two of Competition at Magnus Cup Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's swimming & diving team finished its second day of competition at the third-annual Magnus Cup Invitational on Saturday (11/22).  The three day event is being hosted at the Busbey Natatorium on the campus of Cleveland State University.

One day after posting a pair of NCAA Division II B qualifying times, Rebeca Martinez added another after a strong performance in the 400 Yard IM.  The freshman posted a time of 4:29.85 in the finals after recording a 4:29.97 in the prelims to finish in fifth place.  It was her best time of the 2014-15 season by almost eight seconds in the event.  She would add a season-best time of 59.64 in the 100 Yard Backstroke prelims as well and would swim a 59.76 in the event's finals.

Tyara Green (1:03.57), Breanne Bell (1:03.94), Chelsie Harmon (1:04.75) and Katelynn Franczak (1:09.26) all competed in the 100 Yard Butterfly with all four recording season-best times.

Kaleigh Kovac and Melanie Soenksen swam in the 200 Yard Freestyle and both turned in season-best times as well.  Kovac touched the board with a time of 2:03.80 while Soenksen finished with a mark of 2:04.19.  Kovac would go on to compete in the 100 Yard Backstroke, putting up a season-best mark of 1:08.53.

Carley Buechner and Chelsie Harmon put together season-best times in the 100 Yard Breaststroke as well, with Buechner swimming a time of 1:07.82 in the finals and Harmon a mark of 1:14.16.

Shaked Bachar swam in the 100 Yard Backstroke as well and had a time of 1:03.75 in her first time taking part in the event for the season.

Erica Wysocki (211.20), Wilhelmina Francisco (208.20) and Kathleen Murphy (179.50) all took part in the Three Meter Diving event for SVSU as well.

The women sit in eighth place through 30 events with 211 points.  The Invitational will continue Sunday in Cleveland.
