Women's Swimming Keeps Rolling With Victory Over Urbana

URBANA, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's swimming team defeated Urbana University on Saturday (10/25) afternoon by a final margin of 109-62.  The Cardinals were victorious again in the program's inaugural season as they have posted victories in their first three contests of the year.

The 200 Yard Medley Relay got things started in the first event as the relay team had another victory.  The team of Shaked Bachar, Carley Buechner, Rebeca Martinez and Melanie Soenksen posted a time of 1:56.88.

Katelynn Franczak got a victory in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 12:43.94 while Martinez had another two victories in the 400 Yard IM (4:44.06) and the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:00.71).

Bachar claimed the top spot in the 500 Yard Freestyle finishing at 5:32.83 while Buechner was victorious in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:12.14.  Melanie Soenksen competed in the 500 Yard Freestyle as well and finished with a time of 6:00.56.  Chelsea Harmon finished the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:17.94.

Bell finished the 200 Yard Freestyle with a mark of 2:07.13 while Soenksen came in at 2:10.51.  In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Bell posted a 57.49 and Harmon finished with at 57.64.

Tyara Green (25.53), Kaleigh Kovac (28.18) and Kendall Stevens (30.85) competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle.  Green would finish the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:08.04 as well.

The team of Green, Franczak, Harmon, and Bell would finished the meet with a victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:48.84.

Saginaw Valley returns home for a meet with Alma and Calvin at the Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center on November 1st at 1:00 pm.
