Cardinals Draw for Second Straight on Road Trip

Cardinals Draw for Second Straight on Road Trip

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team wrapped up their final road trip of the regular season with a 0-0 draw against Michigan Tech. Kennedi Pugh stopped all eight shots against her for her first clean sheet of the season and the Cardinals eighth of the year.

It was a hard-fought defensive game for Saginaw Valley as the Huskies controlled the shot attempts. MTU led the game in shots 11-2 and held SVSU to no shots in the second half. Gabby Green and Larissa Barnett both had a shot attempt with Green's going on goal.

Michigan Tech put four shots on goal in each half with one of their closest chances coming off a late corner kick that Pugh was able to punch into the air and then corral while falling to the ground. Pugh has had back-to-back eight save games with the 1-1 tie against Northern Michigan and the 0-0 draw against Michigan Tech. SVSU is second in the GLIAC in shutouts and fourth in goals against average and save percentage.

It was a cold and snowy match, but Saginaw Valley held on to earn one point in the very competitive GLIAC standings. SVSU sits in fourth with potential to move up to second or third depending on how the final day of the regular season pans out. They are three points behind both Michigan Tech and Grand Valley and will host the Ferris State Bulldogs on Thursday, November 2 at 1:00 PM. If the Cardinals win and either the Huskies or Lakers lose, they can tie them in conference points for higher seeding. After all the action Sunday afternoon, SVSU is set to host Davenport for the quarterfinal round of the GLIAC championship.
