Cardinals Bounce Back with 2-1 Decision at Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – Stephanie Strong scored a goal and dished an assist on the game-winning tally to lead the Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team to a 2-1 decision over Findlay on the road Sunday afternoon.

Strong scored her third goal of the season while leading the team with six shots, half of which were on target. Lauryn Fracassi was credited with the assist on Strong's score that gave SVSU the 1-0 lead in the first half. Jensen Taylor was the goal scorer for the game-winning goal off an assist from Strong.

The Cardinals paced play through the first half, but couldn't capitalize on their early opportunities until Strong's goal broke the tie in the final three minutes before the intermission.

Similar to the first half, SVSU generated a few opportunities to extend the lead, but couldn't put the ball in the net until the 60:23 mark where Taylor tallied the insurance goal that turned into the game-winner. The Oilers pressed in the final minutes of play and netted one score in that effort in the 65th minute, but the Cardinal defense, led by Kennedi Pugh (W, 1-0), held the lead as the clock hit zeros. Pugh made four saves in her 90 minutes in the net to earn her first win of the season.

The Cardinals remain away from home with the first game in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Davenport on Friday, September 15. That game is slated to start at 4:00 p.m.
