Lukowski scores in OT to send SVSU to GLIAC semis

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated Northwood University 1-0 in a GLIAC Quarterfinal match on Tuesday at the SVSU Practice Field. With the win, the Cardinals move on to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Cardinals and Timberwolves played a scoreless first half, as both defenses stood tall. In the second half, Sarah Fredrick and Amy Babon each had quality scoring chances for the Cardinals, but after 90 minutes, the game headed into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Cardinals attacked almost immediately and drew a corner kick. Reegan Kingpavong sent a ball into the box and Kylie Lukowski was able to put it in net off a header, earning SVSU the win.

Olivia Argeros made three saves in net, and picked up her 11th shutout of the season, setting a new program record for shutouts in a season. The senior broke the record held by Stacy LaLond (2006), Anne Bershbach (2009), Claire Spleth (2014), and Alyssa Watts (2018).

The Cardinals outshot Northwood 15-8.

The No. 3 seed Cardinals face No. 2 seed Ferris State University in the semifinals. The game will be played at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich.

In the lone matchup earlier this season, SVSU and Ferris State played to a 0-0 tie in Big Rapids, Mich.
