Davenport edges SVSU 1-0 in GLIAC match

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team saw its two-game win streak snapped in a close contest against Davenport University Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Cardinals and Panthers were scoreless until the 68th minute when Davenport found the game's lone goal to earn the 1-0 victory. The loss drops SVSU to 2-4-0 overall and in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

SVSU held on throughout the match despite being outshot 13-3. Alyssa Watts made seven saves for the Cardinals in the loss. Reegan Kinpavong recorded two of the three shots for SVSU.

Davenport's goal came from Alexis Cook, who struck a ball from the top of the box to the right side of the SVSU net. Madeline Zayan had the assist.

SVSU continues league play against No. 2 Grand Valley State University at 1 pm Sunday in Allendale, Mich.
