Cardinals earn first win, top Rangers 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team broke through with its first win of the 2021 season, topping the University of Wisconsin Parkside in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup Friday at Braddock Field.

The Cardinals got on the board late in the first half and doubled the lead midway through the second half. Parkside made it interesting late with a goal in the final minute of regulation, but SVSU held on for a 2-1 victory to improve to 1-3 overall and in the GLIAC this season.

Kylie Lukowski netted her first goal of the year on an assist from Andrea Lopez in the 38th minute to send SVSU to the break with a 1-0 lead. Jensen Taylor took a beautiful feed from Lukowski to make it 2-0 with her third goal of the season in the 64th minute.

The Rangers got on the board late with a goal from Alexis Bolger.

SVSU outshot Parkside 19-15 as Alyssa Watts made six saves in her first win of the season for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals remain home to host the final regular-season game against Purdue University Northwest at 1 pm Sunday at Braddock Field. Watts will be honored in a pregame senior day ceremony at noon.
