MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team was victorious over Northern Michigan winning, 4-0, in a GLIAC matchup. With the win the Cardinals advance to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in GLIAC play.
SVSU was first on the scoreboard as Whitney Flemming found the back of the net at the 40' mark of the first half on a feed from teammates Amy Babon and Sarah Samolinski to put the Cardinals up, 1-0. This score would hold true through the remainder of the first half.
Saginaw Valley out shot the Wildcats, 6-3, in the first half and Alyssa Watts kept NMU at bay with two saves.
The Cardinals opened the second half of play with a goal at the 50' mark as Molly Vanderhoff found Sakura Bals to put SVSU up, 2-0, on Northern Michigan. The Wildcats struggled to defend against the Cardinal offensive attack as a third goal came on a feed from Valentina Giambanco to Amy Babon at the 69' mark to put SVSU up, 3-0. Babon would have a chance for another goal on a penalty kick, but was unable to get the ball past the keeper. The Cardinals final goal would come on another penalty kick opportunity for Babon which would find the back of the net to put Saginaw Valley up, 4-0. NMU saw only one opportunity to score in the second half and Watts was able to keep the ball out of the net, making the final score SVSU 4, NMU 0.
