Cardinals Racked Up 30 Shots in Win Over Northwood

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The SVSU Women's Soccer team hosted cross town rivals, Northwood University, in a regional matchup Sunday afternoon at Braddock Field. The Cardinals outplayed the Timberwolves in every offensive catergory, taking the contest 2-nil.

Saginaw Valley bounces back after their only loss this season to a 4-1-1 record heading into conference play on Friday (Sept. 21). Northwood falls to 1-4-0 overall.

In the first half, SVSU was very aggressive offensively, posting 15 shots (four on goal) to NU's two (one on goal). Although, the team struggled to find the back of the net during the first half with the Timberwolves goalie, Bridget Adams, stopping all of SV's SOG's.

This was not the case in the second half as the Cardinals racked up 15 shots again but this time with five on goal.

Also, at the 55' mark of action, Saginaw Valley's Molly Vanderhoff, dribbled the ball in, and shot from 20 yards out into the goal to post the first goal of the contest. This was her third netter of the season and first game-winner.

Vanderhoff would then go onto set up teammate Lindsay Stroebel at 58' for her third goal of the season 15 yards back.

This would be the final goal of the afternoon for the SVSU team as the Cardinals take the victory, 2-0.

NU's Adams (1-4-0) would drop the contest for the Timberwolves, contributing 10 saves out of 12 shots on goal. Alyssa Watts (4-1-1) would take the win for the Cardinals, saving the only solo shot on goal for the entire contest.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Vanderhoff posted four shots, two on goal, with one game-winner and one assist
  • Strobel added the only other goal, with six total shots
  • Valentina Giambanco and Amy Babon each added six shots
  • Sarah Ismail added two shots with one on goal
  • The Cardinals edged out 6-3 total in corners
