CEDARVILLE, Ohio - In a season-opening non conference matchup, the Saginaw Valley State University Women's Soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Cedarville University on Thursday (Aug. 31) evening.

Saginaw Valley out-shot the Yellow Jackets in both halves of the contest, posting a 7-6 edge in the first half and an 11-4 mark in the second for the 18-10 advantage overall. Cedarville was able to put seven of their 10 shots on net while SVSU put five shots on goal in the contest.

Cedarville put goals on the board at the 14:21, 16:15 and 25:59 marks, respectively, in the first to take the 3-0 lead. The home Yellow Jackets then added the fourth and final tally of the match at the 52:12 marker for the 4-0 lead.

That would be all of the scoring for the game, as the Cardinals couldn't capitalize on the 11 second half shots that they put up.

From Head Coach Michael O'Neill

"Today was a tough one to take. We thought we were prepared to start the season off the right way but obviously that didn't happen. Cedarville is a very hard-working and intense team and they came out of the blocks a lot quicker than us. We just weren't at the races in the first half. We lacked tempo, quality and bite and Cedarville took full advantage of it. We will have to learn from it, regroup and prepare for another tough road trip Sunday to UIndy."
