COLUMBUS, Ohio. - The SVSU women's soccer team completed its first weekend of GLIAC action against Ohio Dominican University on Sunday (Sep. 25). The Cardinals fired 18 shots towards the goal and played to their first tie on the season, 1-1.
SVSU gained the edge offensively in the early minutes of the match with three shot attempts and two corner kicks. The Cardinals' persistence paid off, with Jenny Goethals ripping a shot from inside the 18-yard box and into the net, giving the Cardinals a quick 1-0 lead just nine minutes in.
Ohio Dominican would counter SVSU's early goal with a tally of its own in the 37th minute. The scored was tied, 1-1, and would stay that way heading into the half.
The Cardinals continued their relentless offensive attack in the second half, peppering three shots on goal in five minutes and attempted a corner kick. The teams continued to fire plenty of shots on net as the second half ended in a 1-1 tie and head to overtime unable to break the stalemate.
The game would remain tied after two overtimes despite a late push from Ohio Dominican, with two shots on net in the last two minutes. That resulted in the game finishing in the 1-1 draw.
