ALLENDALE, Mich. - The SVSU women's soccer team traveled to face the no. 2 nationally-ranked Grand Valley State University Lakers on Friday (Sep. 16) night in a non-conference tilt between the two schools. The Lakers would score twice in the opening period and hold the Lady Cardinals scoreless throughout, sealing a 2-0 shutout in a game that lasted over three hours after a weather delay.

The Lakers got on the board at the 12' mark on a goal by Sara Stevens for the 1-0 lead. The home squad would push the lead to 2-0 at the 32' marker when Jayma Martin notched the team's next goal.

After an extended weather delay with under eight minutes left in the first half, the teams would begin play for the second.

Neither team, however, would get on the board in the second period, and the final score would end up 2-0 with the Lakers coming out on top.
