UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell short in its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match against Ashland on Friday (Oct. 4), 4-2.
The first half saw plenty of back and forth action, but no scoring. The Eagles would hold the early advantage in shots on goal by a margin of 13-7. The teams would enter halftime at a 0-0 stalemate.
The second half brought an array of goals. Jennifer Goethals (Rochester, Mich./Rochester HS) put away a rebound in the upper right corner that gave SVSU a 1-0 lead. The Eagles would respond with two goals of their own, putting them ahead 2-1.
Marci Northuis (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) would score the equalizer for the Cardinals off on a great header from the foot of Presley Tibbetts (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS). The 2-2 score would not stay that way for long. Ashland added goals in the 70th and 76th minutes to secure the 4-2 win.
The loss leaves Saginaw Valley with a 3-5-1 overall record and 1-4 mark in the GLIAC.
The Cardinals return to action when they take on Ohio Dominican on Sunday (Oct. 6). Kickoff is set for noon at Braddock Field.
