ASHLAND,OH. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated the Eagles of Ashland University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest today (Sept. 28), 3-0.
The Lady Cardinals (3-1-4) set the tempo early in the ball game with back-to-back goals within two minutes of each other. The first goal to register on the scoreboard was by Olivia Perrin (Cadillac, Mich. / Cadillac HS) on an assist by Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.) at the 27:25 mark.
The Cardinals kept the momentum going as Kristen Tomczyk (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer East HS) ripped a kick past the Eagle goalkeeper, putting the Cardinals up 2-0. Tomczyk's goal was setup by a pass from Kellsey Poston (New Boston, Mich. / Huron HS).
Just minutes later, Poston, would find the back of the net on her own goal, this time off an assist from Tomczyk at the 37:39 mark. That goal would lead the Cardinals into the intermission with a 3-0 lead over the Eagles.
Niether team would score in the second half as SVSU went on to the 3-0 victory.
The Cardinals will return to action at Ohio Dominican on Sunday (Sept. 30) at 2:00 PM.
