Lady Cardinals and Cavaliers End in 2-2 Tie

Lady Cardinals and Cavaliers End in 2-2 Tie

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team played the Walsh University Cavaliers to a 2-2 tie this afternoon (Sept. 16).

The Cavaliers (3-1-1, 0-1-1) wasted little time finding the back of the net as Jessie Gearhart scored the first goal of the game at the three minute mark.

The Cardinals (2-1-2, 1-0-1) would answer Walsh's goal on a kicked ball that Kali Barry (Mason, Mich. / Mason HS) drilled by the Cavalier goalkeeper for the first Saginaw Valley score of the game at the 23:21 mark.

Walsh and SVSU entered the half with a 1-1 tie.

Both teams came ready to battle in the second half. Walsh would net a goal by Molly Martin on a penalty kick, putting the Cavaliers up 2-1, in the 76th minute.

After the goal by Martin it would not take long for Andrea Grove (Farmington, Mich. / Farmington HS) to find Bailey Wysocki (Plainfield, Ill. / Central HS) with a beautiful pass that she would hammer home for a Cardinals goal at the 78:22 mark.  The teams would play even the rest of the way, forcing the game into overtime with the score tied at 2-2.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in either overtime period as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Lady Cardinals return to action at Grand Valley on Sept. 21st at 7:00 PM.
