Saginaw Valley Falls to #5 Grand Valley, 2-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to #5 Grand Valley State University, 2-0 today (Oct. 9) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.

Grand Valley would look as if they would take an early lead over the Cardinals finding the back of the net in the first half, but the goal was disallowed due to a Laker being called off sides. Neither team was able to score in the half taking the 0-0 tie into halftime.

The Lakers took the 1-0 advantage over Saginaw Valley just five minutes into the second half of play when Kayla Addison scored an unassisted goal. Grand Valley would extend their lead to two with just under ten minutes of play, allowing them to go on to a 2-0 victory over the Cardinals.

Sophomore Andrea Grove (Farmington, Mich.) placed two shots on goal for Saginaw Valley, while senior Sam Echols (Wolverine Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central HS) had one. Freshman goaltender Laura Ivezaj (Rochester Hills, Mich.) suffered the loss saving seven of the nine shots she faced.

With the loss the Cardinals fall to 4-6-1 overall on the season, and 3-6-1 in the GLIAC, while Grand Valley improves to 11-0-2 overall on the season, and 10-0-0 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 14) when they travel to Lake Erie. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
