Saginaw Valley Defeats Huskies, 3-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated Michigan Tech 3-0 today (Sept. 25) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.

The Cardinals lit up the scoreboard when senior Sam Echols (Wolverine Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central HS) scored unassisted just ten minutes into play going up 1-0 over the Huskies. Echols scored her second goal of the contest extending the Saginaw Valley lead to two on a give and go pass from Olivia Perrin (Cadillac, Mich.). The Cardinals would take the 2-0 lead into the second half of play.

Sophomore Andrea Grove (Farmington, Mich.) found the back of the net late in the second half allowing Saginaw Valley to go on to a 3-0 victory over Michigan Tech. Freshman Laura Ivezaj (Rochester Hills, Mich.) started in goal for the Cardinals picking up her third win of the season and third shutout.

With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 3-4-1 overall on the season, and 2-4-1 in the GLIAC, while Michigan Tech. falls to 3-4-1 overall on the season, and 1-4-1 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 2) when they travel to Northwood University. Game time is scheduled for noon.
