Cardinals Fall to Northern Michigan, 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to Northern Michigan 2-1 in overtime today (Sept. 23).

The Cardinals took the early 1-0 lead over the Wildcats scoring just five minutes into play when freshman Lindsey Arnett (Portage, Mich. / Central HS) found the back of the net off a pass from Andrea Grove (Farmington, Mich.). Northern Michigan would score at the 29:16 mark knotting the score at 1-1 to end the first half of play.

Neither Saginaw Valley or Northern Michigan were able to capitalize on any of their shots in the second half of play sending the game into overtime. The Wildcats ended the contest just ten minutes into overtime scoring off a shot from the top of the box.

Freshman goaltender Nicki Bowers (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Henry Ford II) suffered her first loss of the season for the Cardinals making her 0-1 overall, and 0-1 in the GLIAC.

With the loss Saginaw Valley falls to 2-4-1 overall on the season, and 1-4-1 in the GLIAC, while Northern Michigan improves to 5-1-2 overall on the season, and 3-1-1 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday (Sept. 25) when they take on Michigan Tech.  Game time is scheduled for noon.
