Cardinals Tame Huskies, 1-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated Michigan Tech 1-0 today (Oct 24) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest in their last regular season home game.

The Cardinals and the Huskies both had six shots in the first half of play but neither team was able to capitalize as they entered halftime with no score. Saginaw Valley was able to produced 16 shots in the second half of play compared to Michigan Tech's two.  The Cardinals scored the only goal of the contest with a little over four minutes left of play when junior Sam Echols (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) found the foot of senior Kaysie Morand (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay City Western HS) for her second career game winner.

Junior goaltender Anne Berschbach (Algonac, Mich) and the Saginaw Valley defense were able to keep the Huskies to only eight shots in the match-up. Berschbach is now 8-4-1 overall on the sesaon and has four shut-outs for the Cardinals.

With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 9-6-1 overall on the season, and 8-5-1 in the GLIAC, while Michigan Tech falls to 7-9-0 overall on the season, and 5-9-0 in the GLIAC.  The Cardinals will return to action when they travel to Ohio Dominican on Friday (Oct. 29) for their last regular season contest.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
