Cardinals Fall in Heartbreaker, 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Northern Michigan, 2-1 today (Oct. 22).

Both the Cardinals and the Wildcats remained scoreless through the first half of play in the contest.  Northern got on the scoreboard first scoring just 19 seconds into the second half.  Saginaw Valley answered back at the 84:14 mark when sophomore Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.) found the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1.  The Wildcats scored the final goal of the match-up with just one second remaining in regulation time for the 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

With the loss Saginaw Valley falls to 8-6-1 overall on the season, and 7-5-1 in the GLIAC, while Northern Michigan improves to 7-3-5 overall on the season, and 7-3-3 in the GLIAC.  The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 24) when they take on Michigan Tech for their final regular season home game.  Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
