Cardinals Calm Storm, 4-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated Lake Erie College 4-0 today (Oct. 15) in a Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.

The Cardinals got on the scoreboard first when junior Sam Echols (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore Charley Porter (Midland, Mich./Midland HS).  Sophomore Lara English (Charlotte, Mich./Charlotte HS) found Echols for her second goal of the match-up at the 16:51 mark.  Saginaw Valley would take the 2-0 advantage into halftime.

Echols completed her hat trick just eleven minutes into the second half of play off a pass from freshman Shelby Wright (Fishers, Ind./Fishers HS) to put Saginaw Valley up 3-0.  With four minutes left in the contest freshman Chelsea Dudek (Almont, Mich./Almont) found the foot of junior Amanda Kady (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower HS) who scored the final goal for the Cardinals.

Junior goaltender Anne Berschbach (Algonac, Mich. / Algonac HS) and the Saginaw Valley defense kept Lake Erie to only two shots on the game.  The Cardinals had 20 shots in the contest.

With the win Saginaw Valley moves to 7-5-1 overall on the season, and 6-4-1 in the GLIAC, while Lake Erie falls to 2-10-1 overall on the season, and 0-10 in the GLIAC.  The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 17) when they face Ashland University.  Game time is scheduled for 12:00pm.
