ALLEDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's
soccer team fell to #4 Grand Valley today (Oct. 10), 3-0 in a Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.
Sagnaw Valley fell behind early in the first half of play when
Grand Valley scored just six minutes into the match. The
Lakers pulled ahead 2-0 just ten minutes later. The Cardinals
would fall behind 3-0 at the 20:31 mark when Grand Valley found the
back of the net from a pass across the box. Sophomore Charley Porter
(Midland, Mich.) had three shots on the day with one on goal, while
freshman Emily
Wheat (Flint, Mich. / Kearsley HS) had two shots, one of which
was on goal. The second half of play remained scoreless for
both teams as junior golatender Anne Berschbach
(Algonac, Mich.) faced 25 shots on goal, saving 22 of them.
With the loss Saginaw Valley falls to 6-5-1 overall on the season,
and 5-4-1 in the GLIAC, while Grand Valley improves to 11-1-1
overall on the season, and 8-1-1 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals
will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 15) when they return home to
face Lake Erie. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
