Cardinals Defeat Timberwolves, 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated Northwood University today (Sept. 30), 2-1 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.

The Cardinals would score both their goals early in the first half.  Senior Kaysie Morand (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay City Western HS) scored off a pass from freshman Shelby Wright (Fishers, Ind./Fishers HS) at the 14:12 mark in the game.  Junior Sam Echols (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season just five minutes later for Saginaw Valley. 

Northwood tried to battle back in the second half out-shooting Saginaw Valley nine to four and scoring a late goal at the 63:57 mark making the score 2-1.  Junior goaltender Anne Berschbach (Algonac, Mich.) faced seven shots on goal on the day, saving six of them.

With the win the Cardinals improve to 6-3-1 overall on the season, and 5-2-1 in the GLIAC, while the Timberwolves fall to 3-7-0 overall on the season, and 1-7-0 in the GLIAC.  Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 8) when they travel to Ferris State.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
