Saginaw Valley Defeats Michigan Tech, 3-2

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley women's soccer team defeated Michigan Tech today (Sept. 26) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)  contest, 3-2.

The Cardinals would allow the Huskies to get on the board first in the game but answered back just ten minutes later to tie the score at ones.  Freshman Emily Wheat (Flint, Mich. / Kearsley HS) put one in for Saginaw Valley at the 32:25 mark off a pass from sophomore Lara English (Charlotte, Mich.).  The Cardinals took the 2-1 lead when freshman Kaitlynn Clemens (Woodhaven, Mich.) found sophomore Kayla Johnston (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill HS) for the goal.

Saginaw Valley took the 2-1 advantage into the second half.  Michigan Tech knotted the score at two at the 59:52 mark in the contest.  The Huskies would not hold the score for long as Johnston netted her second goal of the day off a pass from Shelby Wright (Fishers, Ind./Fishers HS).  The Cardinal defense along with goaltender Laura Van de Valk(Burlington, Ont./Assumption Catholic SS HS) allowed Michigan Tech to only four shots on goal for the game.

With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 5-3-1 overall on the season, and 4-2-1 in the GLIAC, while Michigan Tech falls to 3-5-0 overall on the season, and 1-5-0 in the GLIAC.  The Cardinals will be back in action when they travel home to face Northwood University on Thursday (Sept 30).  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm
