Cardinals Cage Bulldogs, 1-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team won their second GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) contest today (Sept. 10) against Ferris State, 1-0.

The Cardinals scored the only goal of the game at the 36:00 mark in the first half.  Sophomore Charlie Porter (Midland, Mich.) threw the ball into sophomore Kayla Johnston (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill HS) who found the back of the net to give Saginaw Valley the 1-0 advantage over the Bulldogs.

The Cardinals defense played strong along with junior goalie Anne Berschbach (Algonac, Mich.) to keep the Bulldogs to only four shots on goal.  The shut-out gives Berschbach her second of the season.

With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 3-1 overall on the season, and 2-0 in the GLIAC, while Ferris State falls to 0-4 overall on the season, and 0-2 in the GLIAC.  The Cardinals will be back in action when they face GLIAC rivals Grand Valley on Sunday (Sept. 12) at home.  Game time is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
