UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University
women’s soccer team defeated Northern Michigan University in
a Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) today
(Oct. 16).
Saginaw Valley remained scoreless in the first two halves of the
contest forcing the game into overtime. Sophomore Samantha Echols
(Walled Lake, Mich.) scored the only goal of the game on a penalty
kick in the 103rd minute of the game. Anne Berschbach
(Algonac, Mich.) held the opposition scoreless, making two saves
and recording her seventh shutout of the season for the
Cardinals.
With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 11-1-2 overall on the
season and 8-0-2 in the GLIAC, while Northern Michigan falls to
6-7-1 overall on the season and 4-5-1 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals
return to action when they travel to Ashland Sunday (Oct. 18) at
noon.
