BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State
University sophomore midfielder Samantha Echols (Walled Lake, Mich./Walled Lake)
earned GLIAC Women’s Soccer ’’Athlete of the
Week’’ honors after scoring a pair of overtime
victories last week over Northern Michigan University and Ashland
University.
Echols led the Cardinals to a pair of overtime victories last week
over Northern Michigan University and Ashland University. She
scored two goals, both overtime game-winners, in the two matches.
Against Northern, she found the back of the net on her second shot
of the contest in the second overtime to make the final score 1-0.
In the Ashland match, Samantha’s second shot would again be
the difference, this time a 2-1 final score that ended in the first
overtime. For the season she has now scored eight goals, five
of which have been game winning goals for the Cardinals.
Saginaw Valley has already tied a school record this season with
12 wins and will travel to the west side of the state this weekend
to play Ferris State (Oct. 16) and No. 1 ranked Grand Valley (Oct.
18) as they continue GLIAC play.
