UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University women’s soccer team defeated St. Francis
(Ind.), 4-0 in their home opener today (Sept. 8).
The first half remained scoreless as neither team could find the
back of the net, but the Cardinals out-shot the Cougars eight to
one. Saginaw Valley came out hard in the second half, as senior Jaclyn Barrett
(Williamston, Mich. / Williamston HS) netted her first of three
goals at the 48:05 mark. She would find the goal again just two
minutes later at 50:06. She would later knock-in her third goal of
the afternoon. Junior Kaysie Morand
(Kawkawlin. Mich. / Bay City Western HS) would cap-off the scoring
on a pass from freshman Charley Porter
(Midland, Mich. / Midland HS) to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead. The
Saginaw Valley defense held the Cougars to just one shot on the
game.
With the win, Saginaw Valley improves to 2-1-0 overall, while St.
Francis falls to 2-4-0 overall. The Cardinals will be back in
action when they host Alma College on September 11 at 5:00pm.
