UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University women’s soccer team defeated Alma College
5-2 this afternoon (Sept. 11).
The Cardinals came out with a solid start, taking a two goal lead
over the Scots. Freshman Charley Porter
(Midland, Mich. / Midland HS) began the scoring for Saginaw Valley
with a header off the cross bar on a pass from senior Renee Privette (Port
Huron, Mich. / Port Huron HS). Freshman Abby Bellamy
(Davidson, Mich. / Davidson HS) would score the second goal on an
assist from junior Kaysie Morand
(Kawkawlin, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) for Saginaw Valley just
seven minutes later, to give the Cardinals a two goal advantage.
Alma would cut the lead to just one at 39:03 in the game. The
Cardinals would respond with a goal off the foot of junior Cassidy Lay (Monroe,
Mich. / Monroe HS) on a pass from senior Jaclyn Barrett
(Williamston, Mich. / Williamston HS). Less than a minute later,
the Scots scored their second and final goal of the contest. With
just three minutes left in the first half, junior Amanda Kady (Macomb,
Mich / Eisenhower HS) netted a goal on an assist from Barrett to
give the Cardinals a strong two goal lead. Early in the second
half, sophomore Samantha Echols
(Walled Lake, Mich.) found the back of the net for Saginaw
Valley’s fifth and final goal of the contest on a pass from
freshman Kayla
Johnston (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill HS).
With the win, Saginaw Valley improves to 3-1-0 overall, while Alma
College falls to 1-3-0 overall. The Cardinals will be back in
action when they travel to Northwood University for their first
GLIAC match on September 13.
