UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw
Valley State University women’s soccer team competed Sunday
(Oct. 4) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) match
against Grand Valley State University.
The lady Cardinals competed well in a double overtime tie against
the Lakers. Saginaw Valley’s first goal of the game came in
the 26th minute when senior Kristen Kemmer (Bay
City, Mich. / John Glenn HS) found an open Renee Privette (Port
Huron, Mich. / Port Huron HS) for the Cards first and only goal of
the game. SVSU would hold the Lakers scoreless until the 84th
minute when Erin Hilbert of Grand Valley found the back of the net
to tie the game 1-1. The match would continue into two overtimes
where neither team could break the tie. The Cardinals defense
played strong once again helping increase sophomore goalkeeper Anne
Berschbach’s (Algonac, Mich. / Algonac HS) scoreless
streak that broke today at 638 minutes.
With the tie Saginaw Valley’s record moves to 8-1-2 on the
season and 5-0-2 in the GLIAC while Grand Valley moves to 10-0-3
overall and 6-0-2 in GLIAC play. The Cardinals return to GLIAC play
again Friday (Oct. 9) when they host Tiffin University at 12pm.
