Saginaw Valley Women's Soccer ties Grand Valley, 1-1 in GLIAC Finals, Lakers advance on penalty kicks

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team tied Grand Valley, 1-1 today (Nov. 8) in GLIAC final play.  The Lakers would claim the title, however, and the conference's automatic berth into NCAA postseason play, as they advanced on penalty kicks.

The Cardinals would get on the scoreboard first in the 46th minute of the game when freshman Kristen Tomczyk (Lapeer, Mich) found the back of the net off a corner kick from freshman Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.).  Just minutes later Grand Valley knotted the score to force the game into overtime.  The game would remain scoreless through two overtimes and go into a shootout where Saginaw Valley was unable to score, giving Grand Valley the victory.

The Cardinals end regular season play at 14-3-2 overall on the season and 10-1-2 in the GLIAC, while Grand Valley improves to 19-0-2 overall on the season and 13-0-1 in the GLIAC.  Both teams await NCAA Division II Regional Rankings for their next opponents.
