Three Cardinals Garner All-GLIAC Honors, Drago Tabbed "Coach of the Year"

BAY CITY, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team had three athletes earn All-GLIAC Honors for the 2009 season.  Senior forward Jaclyn Barrett (Williamston, Mich.), senior midfielder Renee Privette (Port Huron, Mich.), and freshman defender Abby Bellamy (Davidson, Mich.) were all named to the 2009 All-GLIAC Second Team.  SVSU head coach Drago was tabbed as the 2009 GLIAC Women's Soccer "Coach of the Year" after leading the Cardinals to a school-record 13 wins in the 2009 regular season.

Barrett was the only Cardinal to start all 17 games in the regular season.  She recorded 12 goals, including two hat-tricks and two game-winning goals, to go along with four assists while contributing a team-high 28 points.

Privette had three goals, including two game-winners, and five assists this fall for SVSU, totaling 11 points for the Cardinal offense from the midfielder position in 17 total contests.

Bellamy started in 15 of the Cardinals' matches this fall, and was a key part to an SVSU defense that held opponents to 0.68 goals per game and 9.1 shots per game for a 0.78 shot percentage.  She also added two goals, one a game-winner and an assist as a defender this year for the Cardinals.

Drago earns the GLIAC "Coach of the Year" award for the first time in his seven seasons at the helm of the SVSU women's soccer team.  He has led the Cardinals to five-straight winning seasons, including a team record 13 victories this fall.  Under the guidance of Dumbovic, the Cardinals have posted nine shutouts during the 2009 season with a starting lineup that features a majority of underclassmen.  SVSU has posted a 13-2-2 overall record and a 10-1-2 record in GLIAC play, with its only defeat coming at the hands of nationally-ranked Grand Valley State.
