UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – In a match
that came down to the wire against GLIAC foe Tiffin University, the
Cardinal womens soccer team persevered in the closing minutes to
win its first match of the season 1-0.
At the 87:45 mark, Cardinal defender Lauren Saigh (Sterling
Heights, Mich. Henry Ford II HS) received a pass from forward
Samantha Echols and beat Dragon’s goalkeeper Abby Grieser for
the game’s lone tally.
With the victory, the Cardinals (1-2, 1-0 GLIAC) handed the
visiting Dragons their first loss of the season (5-1, 1-1 GLIAC).
SVSU out shot Tiffin 17-12.
Mining the net for SVSU, Missy Fredrick (Westland, Mich. John
Glenn Westland HS) gained the shutout by turning away five Dragon
shots, while the Cardinal defense kept Tiffin to just three shots
in the second half.
