Herbstreit Ties for Second at NC4K Classic

GROVE CITY, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf team competed in two rounds of the NC4K Classic hosted by Ohio Dominican on Monday and Tuesday. The Cardinals placed seventh out of 16 teams with a total score of 650 strokes at Pinnacle Country Club.

Brook Herbstreit led the tournament after the first round and ultimately finished tied for second out of 97 golfers. She recorded rounds of 71 (-1) and 80 (+8) for a total score of 151 (+7), just one stroke behind the leader. Megan Thiravong followed closely, finishing in a three-way tie for 22nd place. Thiravong shot 79 (+7) and 80 (+8), ending with a two-round total of 159 (+15).

Hannah Hausser posted rounds of 83 (+11) and 87 (+15) for a combined score of 170 (+26). Andie Martin and Christina Nagy also contributed scoring rounds for the team. Martin carded rounds of 84 (+12) and 97 (+25) for a total of 181 (+37), while Nagy shot 88 (+16) and 86 (+14), finishing with a total of 174 (+30). Megan Kozlowski rounded out the six-player squad, recording scores of 88 (+16) and 91 (+19) for a total of 179 (+35).

SVSU tied for fourth in total birdies with 12, five of which came from Herbstreit. The Cardinals also tied for sixth in total pars with 89. The team excelled on par threes and par fours, ranking fifth and seventh in average scoring, respectively. They averaged 3.52 strokes (+25) on par threes and 4.66 strokes (+79) on par fours.

Up Next: Saginaw Valley women's golf will play one more tournament before the GLIAC Championships. The Cardinals head to the Cav Classic hosted by Walsh University, competing at Glenmoore Country Club on Monday, April 14, and Tuesday, April 15.
