Herbstreit leads SVSU to fourth in season-opening tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fourth-place Saginaw Valley State University concluded its first event of the fall season on Tuesday at the Ohio Dominican University Champions of Women's Golf tournament with a 627 – just three shots off first place.

The Cardinals shaved off seven strokes from Monday's opening round to card a collective 317+310=627 score to finish fourth in the 16-team field.

Brook Herbstreit paced SVSU with a 77+74=151 for a third-place tie overall out of 93 individuals. Rachael Krieger also finished in the top-10 with a 78+77=155 for tied-ninth.

Emily O'Brien joined her teammates with a top-20 showing after a 78+81=159 for tied-20th.

Also contributing for the Cardinals were Megan Kozlowski (84+78=162, T-27th), Mandy Ehrlich (84+82=166, T-43rd) and Andie Martin (85+81=166, T-43rd)

Northern Michigan won the team crown with a 303+321=624. Becky Williams of seventh-place Otterbein University was the medalist with a 74+75=149.

Saginaw Valley returns to the links at the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational on Saturday at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich., then stay on the road for the Grand Valley State University Laker Invitational on Sunday and Monday at the Meadows Golf Course.
