BELMONT -- The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Golf team opened play for its final tournament of the 2017 fall season on Monday (Oct. 16) at the Battle in Belmont. The first round was played at the Blythefield Country Club. 

The Lady Cardinals sit in fifth place overall after shooting a first round score of 327. SVSU is four strokes behind fourth place Northwood University. Wayne State University leads after a score of 311. 

The low round of the day for SV went to Sabrina Coffman. She carded an 80 (+8) in the opening round. Sitting right behind her is Shelbe Cahill, who opened play with an 81 (+9). Coffman and Cahill sit in 10th and 11th place overall, respectively. 

Emily Barker and Lucy Cornwell rounded-out the team's scoring on Monday, each shooting a round of 83 (+11). They are tied for 22nd place overall in the event. 

Alexa Marston was the final competitor for SVSU, shooting a score of 86 (+14). 

Up Next...

The team will compete on day two of the event on Tuesday. Second round action will be played at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Belmont.
