NASHPORT, Ohio -- The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Golf team competed in the opening round of its first-ever GLIAC Championships on Friday (Apr. 21) afternoon. The ladies played at The Virtues Golf Club, a par-72 5,926 layout in Ohio. SVSU, paced by a program record score of 76 (+4) by Shelbe Cahill, sits fifth after 18 holes of play with a score of 332 (+44).

The Cardinals sit seven strokes behind fourth-place Ashland University. The University of Findlay leads after a first round score of 308 (+20).

Cahill's 76 has her in a tie for 5th place overall with three other players. She posted two birdies in the opening round of play for SVSU.

Alexa Marston sits in 20th place overall after her first round score of 82 (+10). She birdied two of her first three holes in the round, as Saginaw Valley started on hole No. 10.

Sabrina Coffman and Katie Boyd each shot scores of 87 (+15) to round-out the scoring for SVSU. They sit in a tie for 36th overall.

Emily Barker competed as well, finishing with a score of 90. 

Up Next...

Saginaw Valley will play in the second of three rounds for the championship event on Saturday. Second round pairings have yet to be announced, but the women are set to tee-off in the afternoon flight.
