MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf program officially got its start this past weekend, traveling to Marquette to compete in the Northern Michigan University Invitational.

The ladies finished in fifth place with a 27-hole total score of 547. Northern Michigan claimed the title for the event, firing a score of 490.

The first round of play was shortened to just nine holes due to bad weather. Payton Steinhaus had a 46, the low round for the Lady Cardinals. Both Alexa Marston and Katie Boyd were next with rounds of 50. Sabrina Coffman and Emily Barker shot a 55 in their first action for SV. Katie Morrissey and Jenna Pepper played as individuals, shooting rounds of 54 and 56, respectively. 

Leading the way in the second round was Barker with a round of 83. Next was Coffman with a score of 87. Both Steinhaus and AMarston shot an 88 in their first complete 18-hole rounds for the Cardinals. Boyd shot a 94.

Pepper had a 94 and Morrissey posted a 97 in round two, both competing as individuals. 

Saginaw Valley plays next at the Ferris State Invitational, set to take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan.
