Jenny Pruett was named the SVSU Head Women's Basketball Coach on April 8, 2019 and is entering her fifth year as head coach in the 2023-24 season.

In Pruett's first season as head coach in 2019-20, Saginaw Valley finished with a 12-17 overall record and an 8-12 mark in GLIAC play. The Cardinals earned their first GLIAC Tournament appearance since the 2016-17 season and fell to second ranked Ashland in the quarterfinals. Guard Kaitlyn Zarycki was named the GLIAC Freshmen of the Year and was Second Team All-GLIAC. It was the first All-GLIAC honor for the Cardinals since the 2016-17 season and the first Freshman of the Year since 2015-16. Mariah Cook earned an NSCA 2020 All-American Athlete Award. This award recognized Cook's athletic accomplishments and her dedication to strength and conditioning.

The 2020-21 season saw the Cardinals go 10-10 overall and 9-9 in league play. SVSU advanced to the GLIAC Tournament for the second straight year and defeated Wayne State in the quarterfinals before falling to Michigan Tech in the semifinals. Maddie Maloney was named to the GLIAC All-Tournament team and earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors. Zarycki also earned an All-GLIAC award, as she landed on the first team as well as being on the GLIAC All-Defensive team. Pruett also helped the Cardinals achieve success in the classroom. The Cardinals tied for 14^th in the country among NCAA DII women's basketball programs with a combined GPA of 3.684 for the 2020-21 academic year. This would lead to SVSU being on the WBCA Academic Top 25 list. The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2020-21 season is the 26th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

In 2021-22, SVSU went 16-11 overall and advanced to the GLIAC Tournament for the third season in a row after posting an 11-8 record in conference play. Kaitlyn Zarycki earned First Team All-GLIAC honors, as well as GLIAC All-Defensive. Maddie Maloney was named Second Team All-GLIAC under Pruett. Three players surpassed the 1000-point mark in their careers during the season, including Zarycki, Maloney, and Maddie Barrie. 

Pruett comes to Saginaw Valley after serving as an assistant coach at Division I St. Bonaventure University, where she spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at the Division I school that competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference. While helping lead the Bonnies, Pruett developed the team's first All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team member since the 2006-07 season. She coached another student-athlete to Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in 2016-17 and was instrumental in developing one of the most improved players in the league, increasing totals from 1.7 ppg, 1.1 rpg and .2 apg to figures of 10 ppg, 5.6 rpg and 1.2 apg. The team achieved well in the classroom as well, earning honors from the NCAA for its Academic Progress Rates and academic culture in the program. 

Before coaching at St. Bonaventure, Pruett served as a collegiate coach for four years at Kent State, Longwood and Central Michigan. She spent the previous two years as a high school head coach at Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Catholic School in Powhatan, Virginia, where she led her squad to a 38-20 record after taking over a team that finished 5-16 in the season prior to her arrival.

During her time at Kent State, she was in charge of recruiting Michigan, Indiana, Florida, parts of Virginia and Kentucky as well as northern Ohio and the Cincinnati area.

At Longwood, she worked with the team's guards during the 2011-12 campaign while also serving as the team's academic liaison. Pruett got her start in collegiate coaching as a volunteer assistant coach for Central Michigan in 2010-11.

That stint followed a three-year playing career at Ohio University, where Pruett was a three-year starter and team captain for two seasons. A 2008 Mid-American Conference All-Tournament team selection, Pruett was also an Academic All-MAC honoree and was the team's representative on Ohio's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Pruett also played at Michigan State for the 2005-06 season. A native of St. Johns, Michigan, Pruett is a two-time graduate of Ohio University, earning a bachelor's degree in Spanish education in 2009 and a graduate degree in coaching education in 2010. She was inducted into the St. Johns High School Hall of Fame in 2016, which was the inaugural class. 

Pruett and her husband Brad live in Freeland, Mich., with their children Jake and Brynn.
