Jones and Meredith Earn All-GLIAC Honors

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University junior Aleshia Jones and sophomore Lydia Meredith cap off the 2023-24 season with All-GLIAC honors. In Jones's first year as a transfer, she was named to the second team All-GLIAC while Meredith in her second year made the all-defensive team.

Jones started all 29 games for the Cardinals and put up 13.3 points per game, which was good enough for sixth in the GLIAC. She also posted averages of 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Jones opened the season with her career-high scoring of 34 points against Northwood on November 10.

SVSU head women's basketball coach Jenny Pruett said, "Aleshia's transition into GLIAC basketball has been phenomenal. We knew she was going to be special from the moment she walked onto campus. She makes everyone around her better by her work ethic and determination to get better every single day. I am proud of the way she competed every day and every game. She has earned her way into the top tier of the GLIAC and I am so proud of her first year as a Cardinal. I cannot wait to see what she does next season!"

In her second year with the program, Meredith started 26 of the 29 games. She was an all-around player who averaged 6.7 points per game along with 4.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. Meredith ranked second in the GLIAC for steals per game just 0.3 behind the leader. It was a career year for Meredith posting career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals.

"Lydia's defensive mindset is unmatched. She is gritty and tough and leads our charge as a defensive minded team. She has a defensive swagger about her that leads into her toughness at the offensive end. I am proud of the way she stepped up this year and took challenges personally. If I told her we needed a stop, she would find a way to make it happen. She deserves a spot on this team and I am proud of her efforts this year," Pruett said.
