ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team ended their season on Saturday, March 4 with an 87-48 loss to Grand Valley State University in the semi-finals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament. The women's team finished the season 16-14 overall and 10-8 in the GLIAC.

Tori DePerry led the Cardinals in scoring with 19 points, and teammate Kaitlyn Zarycki followed with 13 points of her own. The team shot 18-53 (34%) from the floor and 2-17 (11.8%) from beyond the arc. The paint battle went to the Lakers, and SVSU scored eight points in the paint to Grand Valley's 46.

Zarycki opened the scoring for the Cardinals with an and-one basket to tie the game at three and Tyler Scheid made a layup on the next possession. The Lakers answered with a 22-3 run to close the quarter and held SVSU under double digits in the first frame.

Jessica Massey looked to spark the team with some fire going into the second quarter with an opening layup one minute in. DePerry added another on the next possession, but the Cardinals were met with suffocating defense from the Lakers which held the squad to single digits for the second straight quarter. SVSU trailed 49-17 headed into the half.

SVSU was met with the same defense it faced in the first half and could not find an answer for the Midwest region's third-ranked team. The Cardinals were outscored in the second half and were able to tie the lakers in the fourth quarter scoring 18-18. The Lady Cardinals will look to build on their stellar season in their 2023-2024 campaign bringing back almost all members of the young squad.
